John the Cowboy

Music is a big part of John’s life. A guitar player, years ago he created a mythical band called “Johnny Chargecard and the American Express.” The band’s big gig each year was an outdoor concert at the Dillon, CO amphitheatre on New Year’s Eve where the temperature probably would be around 15 to 20 degrees. “Now that Johnny Cash and Johnny Paycheck are gone,” he says, “it’s up to Johnny Chargecard to carry on.”

Music is a great part of John’s life and through John Denver met his best friend, Bill Danoff, after a concert at the Universal Amphitheatre in Los Angeles. John has produced several concerts featuring Bill and other top musicians, mostly benefits for the American Alpine Club.

Bill Clinton at The Wall

Early in 1993 John suggested to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund that it invite Bill Clinton, the new Commander-in-Chief, to speak at its annual Memorial Day ceremony at The Wall. Clinton accepted. It was a gutsy move with limited security, jeers and the “Rolling Thunder” motorcycles on nearby Constitution Avenue trying to drown out Clinton, who stood his ground and made a good speech.
